I’m Ending My Life Today. Here’s What I Want You To Know Before I Go.

Hi, I’m Mary Elizabeth. By the time you read this, I’ll be gone. I want to share my story with you because it’s important to me that you understand why I made this choice.

A Long Journey

I’ve lived a full life, but it hasn’t been without its struggles. For years, I’ve battled a chronic illness that has left me in constant pain. Despite countless treatments and therapies, my condition only worsened. Living each day felt more like surviving than truly living.

Choosing Peace

After much thought and discussion with my loved ones, I decided to explore physician-assisted suicide. This wasn’t an easy decision, and it came with many emotional conversations and tears. But in the end, I chose peace over prolonged suffering.

The Process

In my country, we have what’s called an End-of-Life Clinic. They help people like me who are facing terminal illnesses and unbearable pain. The process is thorough and compassionate. I met with doctors, counselors, and legal advisors. They ensured I understood every step and that this was truly my decision.

Support and Understanding

My family and friends have been incredibly supportive. They didn’t always agree with my choice, but they respected it. We’ve shared beautiful moments together, creating lasting memories. They’ve given me the strength to follow through with what I believe is best for me.

What I Want You to Know

I hope my story sheds light on the importance of compassion and understanding when it comes to end-of-life decisions. It’s not about giving up; it’s about finding peace and dignity. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for support. There’s no shame in seeking help or making tough choices for your well-being.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope it brings comfort and perspective to those who need it.
